Program Application/Admission Requirements

The Western Washington University Full-Time MBA program invites applications from students who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited US college or university, or an equivalent degree from a foreign university, before the term in which they intend to begin their graduate studies. An undergraduate degree in a business-related field is not required.

Summary of Admission Requirements:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0*
  • Professional Resume documenting work experience and career history
  • A Statement of Purpose document that addresses questions/prompts laid out in the application system
  • Unofficial transcripts from every higher education institution attended for academic credit, including transfer credits or study abroad credits but not including credits taken during high school.  Official transcripts will be requested if an admission offer is extended and must be provided before a student matriculates.
  • One reference letter from a professional or academic source. Applicants may submit up to three of these letters if they so choose.
  • Application fee of $100 upon submission of completed application.

*Provisional Pathway to Admission

If a student has a cumulative undergraduate GPA less than 3.0, they may still be eligible for admission, but they must submit the following additional materials in order to complete their application:

  1. Supplementary Essay: this should be added on as an addendum to the Statement of Purpose document and the applicant should address their prior academic experience, and any additional factors that the admissions team should review when considering them for provisional admission.
  2. Admissions Interview: schedule and engage in a remote or in-person interview with a member of the MBA Program Operations team or faculty group.

If a student is granted provisional admission, a faculty member or program administrator of the applicant’s intended graduate program must submit a statement of support for provisional admission to the graduate dean. If provisional admission is authorized by the Graduate School, the provisions are stated in the letter offering the student special admission to graduate study. Additional information about provisional admission is available in the Graduate School  section of this catalog.

  • International Applicants:
    • English language proficiency: you must complete either the TOEFL or IELTS exam and satisfy the minimum score requirement to submit your application. The required scores are as follow: TOEFL (86iBT) and IELTS (7.0).
    • Credential Evaluation by WES or Educational Perspectives
    • Additional information for admitted international students is available on the graduate school website.

Admit Quarters: Annually in fall.

Deadline: Application deadline is May 1. International students are encouraged to submit applications by February 1 to ensure adequate time for admission decision and application for student visa.

Program Requirements (68 credits)

Other Requirements

Field Experience

In order to demonstrate competence in an organizational setting, students must complete 100 hours of field experience during their time in the program. Upon completion of the approved field experience, the student’s project supervisor must submit a formal evaluation or a letter of recommendation, and the student must submit a 3-5 page reflective paper detailing their experience. Additional information about this requirement can be obtained from the MBA program office.

Academic Probation

The Graduate School requires that all graduate students maintain a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to be a candidate for a degree and to remain in good academic standing. Students in the MBA program falling below this standard will automatically be placed on academic probation and will be allowed a maximum of 16 credits of course work to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.00 or better. If, after completing 16 additional credits, a student has failed to achieve good standing, that student may only be allowed to continue MBA studies with special permission.

In no case will a student be recommended for a master’s degree without having achieved a 3.00 GPA or better.

Student Advising

For answers to routine questions concerning preparation and progress through the program, students should consult this catalog and the program Website. Nonroutine questions should be directed to the program director, assistant director or program manager.
