American Cultural Studies Program, University Interdisciplinary Programs

25 credits (minimum)


The program for Latinx Studies is designed to educate students about Latinx cultures and communities. It will provide in-depth study of history, culture, traditions, politics and experiences. This program is recommended for students interested in working with/learning about Latinx peoples in the United States. The minor requires 25-30 credits, of which 12 will be required and the remainder, elective. It is recommended that the electives come from the social science, history, literature and language offerings below, though other courses may be chosen under advisement of the Latinx Studies minor coordinator. Students also have the option of framing an Independent Study Project with the approval of the minor coordinator.

The Latinx Studies Minor is for students interested in working with/learning about growing Latinx communities in the U.S. It provides an in-depth study of the history, culture, traditions, politics, diaspora and experiences of diverse peoples.

How to Declare (Admission and Declaration Process):

To declare a minor in Latinx Studies please submit a Student Academic Declaration and Change Form.

Once you fill out form with your information indicating the appropriate minor, route it to Lourdes Gutiérrez Nájera, program advisor, by inserting her email (gutierl2@wwu.edu) at the bottom of the form and submitting it for approval.

Grade Requirements

A grade of C- or better is required for a student’s major or minor courses, and supporting courses for majors and minors.
