C/AM 450 - Western Reads Canada This course studies selected works of Canadian literature important for their artistic, cultural, or historical content and contexts. Like Canada itself, its literature represents a “contact zone” between Indigenous peoples, French and British settlers, and immigrants all over the world. Students will engage in close readings of one work of contemporary Canadian fiction with additional material drawn from Canadian history, geography and culture, including films and media to provide context. The course outline will look different each session, with new themes, readings, and learning activities.
