HUMA 322 - Religion, Reading, and Power Texts exert enormous power in our world, from digital media to traditional paper-and-ink publications. In this course, we examine the intersection of texts, power, and religion. This course is thematically arranged, and includes case studies that analyze acts of reading across history. These case studies range from the composition, later interpretation, and even publication of canonical books to discussions of reading and collective authorship in a digital environment. Course readings will involve the analysis of primary sources and documents, the evaluation of secondary materials, and close, careful reading of more theoretical, methodological reflections.
