WGSS 335 - Queer Comix & Graphic Novels From the alternate kinship models of superheroes and other protagonists to the marginalization of comics’ visual and narrative production as “less than” art, to the courting of outsider audiences in the formation of various counterpublics, comics have always been queer. In this course, we will closely read, respond to, and analyze a wide range of texts in order to gain some understanding of how comics are situated in historical, cultural, social, and political contexts. Students will exercise and refine textual and cultural analysis skills by examining how an author utilizes context, form, visual cues, language, and other elements of sequential art.
