EAST 380 - Religion and Society in China A detailed examination of the major religious and philosophical traditions of pre-modern China: the native traditions of Confucianism, Daoism, ancestor worship and popular religion, as well as Buddhism, which came to East Asia from India. Particular attention is given to the interaction and intertwining of these traditions, and of the ways they shaped and supported the lives of individuals and communities. Also offered as REL 380.
