ENVS 325 - Mountain Geography


Mountains today are almost universally viewed with admiration and affection. However, mountain environments are unlike lowland environment where the majority of humanity lives. Mountains around the world share many characteristics that collectively make them unique systems. This course will detail the processes and features that are particular to mountains, such as complex climate and vegetation distributions, steep slopes prone to natural hazards, and short growing seasons. The goal of this class is for students to develop a broad understanding of mountain environments and how people utilize them in terms of processes, spatial patterns, and histories, so that students can research or work in mountain environments.
