UEPP 562 - Advanced Planning Theory This course provides a critical overview of urban planning theories. While urban planning draws on many disciplines: urban and regional studies, sociology, political science, geography, and more, this course focuses on the following main questions: What is the relationship between urban planning, the state, and political economy? How does urban planning affect urbanization processes, patterns, and everyday life? How does urban planning as a discipline and practice intersect with the notions of public good, public/private property, democracy, and economic development? What assumptions, historical and social context shaped different utopian conceptualizations of the city?
