HIST 373 - Yōkai: Monsters and the Monstrous in Japanese History Surveys the history of the supernatural in Japan from the 8th through 21st centuries. Topics of study include include the adoption of Buddhism, medieval morality tales, and the effects of urbanization and secularization on understandings of the monstrous.
