HUMA 421 - Traditional Indian Medicine Advanced seminar on traditional medicine in South Asia. Emphasis on theories of medicine and approaches to the study of traditional medical systems from the perspective of the humanities and social sciences. Topics may include theory and practice of Ayurveda, Siddha, Tantra, Unani, Homeopathy, and specific issues such as approaches to pregnancy, childbirth, and mental health in India and abroad, from pre-colonial India to recent times. Students conduct a research project in consultation with the instructor and apply methodologies from a variety of disciplines to evaluate complex cultural issues.
