SPED 488 - Math Instruction and Interventions


Designing and teaching mathematics for a diverse classroom. Course emphasizes pedagogy and methods that support decision-making within the context of an Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) frameworks. Focus is on the alignment of and connections between assessment data, instructional practices, and progress monitoring. Specific focus is on data-based decision making; design and implementation of research based instructional strategies; and interventions based on student data. Additional topics include emergent numeracy, computation, problem solving, algebra and functional applications of measurement, time and money.

Prerequisites & Notes: Admission to a Special Education major or department permission.
