HIST 288 - History of the Modern Middle East This class introduces students to the broad contours of Middle Eastern history since the eighteenth century. It covers the late Ottoman empire; European imperialism and colonialism; regional anti-colonialism, nationalism and decolonization; the Palestinian-Israeli conflict; the impact of the Cold War; the rise of Islamism; and postwar U.S. policy in the region.
