SOC 348 - Global Health Introduces students to the main concepts of global health, with a particular emphasis on sociological determinants of health. Focuses on the demographic and epidemiological transitions, gender and reproductive health, human rights, and the global burden of disease. Evaluates the role of international institutions, such as the World Bank and non-governmental organizations, in the organization and delivery of health services in underdeveloped countries. Understanding the root causes of health disparities and strategies for the achievement of health equity is central to the course. Please note: this course includes an engaging group project that requires students to hold several out-of-class meetings. Please take this into consideration before you enroll.
Prerequisites & Notes: Any course from: SOC 221, SOC 234, SOC 251, SOC 255, SOC 260, SOC 268, SOC 269, SOC 271, HNRS 252 or instructor permission. Credits: 5 Grade Mode: Letter GUR Attributes: ACGM
