JAPN 330 - Japanese Culture Through Film This is an introductory survey course on the cinema of Japan from the silent era to the present day. It will be taught in English, with class activities sometimes requiring basic knowledge of Japanese language. Students will learn and practice the foundations of media literacy, visual analysis, and reception as we trace culturally specific historical, industrial, and aesthetic movements throughout the history of Japan’s film industries. Repeatable to a maximum of 10 credits, including original course.
