Technical Writing Certificate

Introduction

Students who complete this fifteen-credit certificate program will engage with the fundamental concepts of technical professional writing, practicing skills that will qualify them for work in a number of professional and technical fields.

Certificate courses approach technical writing as a specialized practice unique from other forms of writing. For example, students will:

  • Produce documents specific to disciplinary fields and personal interests.
  • Explore genre conventions underlying the purpose, design, style, and layout of technical materials.
  • Create user-centered documents that follow accessibility standards.
  • Design and conduct usability and user experience tests.
  • Practice incorporating feedback and notes into editing and revision processes.
  • Develop project management skills to complete projects efficiently and within scope

Sample Careers: Employers in every industry are looking for people with the ability to write and design. Students with a technical writing certificate may go on to put their skills to work in any number of fields, as user-experience designers, project managers, game designers, medical professionals, engineers, teachers, small business owners, and so on.

Certificate Completion

Certificates are awarded only upon the student’s submission of a Certificate Completion Application. Review application fees on the Certificate Information website.

Coursework required for completion of a certificate may not be eligible for financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid department for questions regarding certificate coursework aid eligibility.

Grade Requirements

A grade of C- or better is required for a student’s certificate courses, and supporting courses for certificates.
