Leadership Studies Minor

Introduction

The mission of the Leadership Studies Minor is to create leaders capable of leading change.  We develop student leaders who can work collaboratively with others by honoring differing leadership values, styles, and perspectives, which can result in more equitable solutions and communities.

The Leadership Studies Minor provides a focused course of study and reflective practice in leadership that enables students to combine formal learning of leadership foundations with the development of leadership skills. The minor enables students to develop knowledge, skills, and experience in leadership that are transferable to a wide range of civic and career settings.

While the Institute provides a minor in Leadership Studies, students from any major or program may take many LDST courses. Advisors in the program will work with students to find electives or connections with majors to make the LDST minor more accessible to complete.

Why Consider a Leadership Studies Minor?

Minoring in Leadership Studies provides students with a variety of support mechanisms and opportunities to develop as leaders. These include a broad spectrum of leadership studies courses that tend to have a low faculty-student ratio, provides applied and (occasionally) global leadership opportunities, and could include community engagement, and peer and professional mentoring. The Institute also provides scholarships and ‘gap’ emergency funding to qualifying LDST minors, as well as personal and financial support for student participation in academic conferences and professional development opportunities.
