WGSS 312 - Transnational Queer Feminism(s) This course interrogates these dynamics within queer theory, activism, and politics. By engaging decolonial texts on Indigenous and non-Western practices of queerness in countries such as India, Uganda, Brazil, and Turkey, we will explore the plurality of queer histories and expressions through a transnational lens. The “transnational” is here understood not simply as the spread of gay rights or NGOs, but as shaped by enduring histories of imperialism and settler colonialism, including their queer formations. Readings from anthropologists, philosophers, historians, and queer theorists will help us trace the relationship between queer critique with critiques of colonialism, neoliberalism, and white supremacy. Together, we will develop tools for rethinking queerness from a transnational and decolonial perspective.
