HSP 452 - Gender, Sexuality and Human Services

Addresses a variety of topics related to gender and sexuality and their relationship to the field of human services. Course examines history, culture, current status, and the influence of institutional inequality. Areas include welfare reform, incarceration, domestic violence, sexuality education, reproductive rights, the AIDS epidemic, LGBQ movements, and transgender topics, primarily in the United States. In this course, we will work to “center the margins,” that is, to examine common social issues through the lens of individuals, groups, and communities who are typically marginalized. The course primarily addresses the United States, but your individual work can certainly incorporate other nations.
