Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management, BS

Introduction

The Department of Decision Sciences’ unique Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management Bachelor of Science program is the product of a cooperative effort between faculty and industry which has resulted in a curriculum that combines leadership, technology, and operations management. Students majoring in the program receive an integrated professional education. The Operations Management component develops knowledge on process design and analysis, materials planning and control systems, quality improvement, and strategic decisions. The Business component provides an understanding of business fundamentals as well as current business trends and practices. MSCM students take courses in both engineering and business analytics to gain competencies that facilitate supply chain decision making. Finally, the work experience component provides real-world work experience through an internship that directly relates to students’ education. Students are expected to be able to graduate with a minimum of 97 credit hours.

Upon finishing the program, our students will be able to:

  1. Apply critical analysis to support a recommendation for supply chain operations problems.
  2. Communicate supply chain analyses, decisions, and recommendations effectively to diverse stakeholders using appropriate written, oral, and data-visual formats.
  3. Apply quantitative methodology to support decision making in the context of supply chain and operations management.
  4. Possess skills that make them professionally ready

How to Declare (Admission and Declaration Process):

Category of Major : Open major

New Students

This is an open major. Any new student to WWU may declare into MSCM major when completing the application for admission into WWU. The student will be admitted into MSCM major before course registration.

Students already enrolled and want to declare new or change major

For any currently enrolled WWU student who came into the university without declaring a major or a student who is in another major and wishes to change majors, they must complete the Major Declaration Form.

Transfer students

Transfer students admitted without a WWU GPA (i.e., no graded coursework at WWU at the time of admission) are admitted to both WWU and CBE concurrently, and into their chosen major.

Retention Standards

To remain in good standing in the MSCM program, students must meet the following academic requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative all-college GPA of 2.8 in their MSCM foundation courses.
    • MSCM students whose MSCM foundation courses GPA falls below 2.8 will receive a CBE academic warning and have one quarter to raise their MSCM foundation courses GPA to 2.8 or higher.
    • MSCM students whose MSCM foundation courses GPA remains below 2.8 for two or more consecutive quarters will be dropped from the MSCM program and will not be readmitted into MSCM program until their MSCM foundation courses GPA is 2.8 or higher.
  • Maintain a minimum of 2.50 Western cumulative GPA
    • CBE students whose cumulative WWU GPA falls below 2.50 will receive a CBE academic warning and have one quarter to raise their GPA to 2.50 or higher.
    • CBE students whose cumulative WWU GPA remains below 2.50 for two or more consecutive quarters will be dropped from CBE and will not be readmitted into CBE until their cumulative WWU GPA is 2.50 or higher.
  • CBE students whose cumulative WWU GPA falls below 2.00 will be dismissed immediately from CBE and will not be permitted to register for CBE courses until their cumulative WWU GPA is 2.50 or higher.

Grade Requirements

A grade of C- or better is required for a student’s major or minor courses, and supporting courses for majors and minors.
