Biology — Biomedical Sciences II Concentration
|
|
- Are you interested in the chemical basis of living organisms and biological processes?
- Are you interested in approaching medical, environmental, agricultural, or other biological problems from the underlying chemistry?
- Are you planning to pursue an advanced degree in professional health care that requires a strong chemistry background?
The Biomedical Sciences II (BMSII) concentration is built around a substantial foundation in organic chemistry and biochemistry, providing an excellent background for those interested in a chemical view of life. In fulfilling depth requirements, you may choose to add human anatomy, human physiology, microbiology, immunology, and/or other biomedically-relevant courses. Laboratory courses in microscopy, cell biology, and molecular biology will be of value if you are interested in experimental work. A diploma granted under this concentration will indicate “Bachelor of Science;” official transcripts will indicate Biology – Biomedical Sciences II Concentration.
The coursework in this concentration is appropriate for students for applying to professional programs, including veterinary or human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and optometry. The Biomedical Sciences II concentration will also provide a strong foundation for other careers in allied health, or for working in biochemical, biotechnological, or biomedical research. To get an idea of how well it fulfills the requirements for admission to training programs for various health-related professions, please see the health professions page in this catalog. Discuss with your Pre-Health advisor whether the Biomedical Sciences I or Biomedical Sciences II concentration is the better fit for you.
