Arab American Studies Minor

American Cultural Studies Program, University Interdisciplinary Programs

25 credits

Introduction

The minor in Arab American Studies is an interdisciplinary exploration of Arab American histories, literatures, and cultures. Courses address the historical and current experiences of Arab Americans, exploring themes such as immigration history, political racism, Islamophobia and discrimination, gender and sexuality, media representations, the local and global impacts of war and imperialism on Arab Americans, cultural contributions, and relationships with other racial and ethnic groups.

Why Consider an Arab American Studies Minor?

The Arab American Studies Minor is for students wanting to deepen their engagements, knowledge, and understandings of the most pertinent issues and structures shaping the lives of Arab Americans in this country. The Arab American Studies minor prepares students for excellence in political engagement, social service, advocacy and activism, and leadership in an increasingly complex nation experiencing heightened xenophobia, anti-Arab racism, and Islamophobia.
