Design Minor

Introduction

The Design Minor is composed of 2 GUR courses (large lecture format) and four lecture/lab courses providing a foundation in drawing for design; introduction to graphic design, including visual literacy, color, composition, and presentation; typography, and design methods and technologies.

Why Consider a Design Minor?

The Design Minor can complement or enhance the value of a major through acquired familiarity with historical, conceptual, and technical aspects of the design field. Students develop foundational skills in visual form and gain insight into the culture and practices of the profession.

How to Declare (Admission and Declaration Process):

Students must apply to the program as pre-majors through a portfolio review that takes place during spring quarter. Once they are admitted as pre-majors, they will begin the following fall, taking a series of 200-level lecture and project-based design classes during the fall and winter quarters. Students who successfully complete all of the 200-level requirements who choose not to apply for the BFA, or are not admitted into the major, will be granted a Design Minor.

Grade Requirements

A grade of C- or better is required for a student’s major or minor courses, and supporting courses for majors and minors.
