Theatre and Dance Department, College of Fine and Performing Arts

63-81 credits

Introduction

In the course of their Dance degree, students will be immersed in the study and practice of dance, and evaluate contemporary thinking about dance and related arts.

Why Consider a Dance Major?

BA candidates will focus on the study and practice of dance technique, performance, choreography, dance history, pedagogy, and anatomy and kinesiology.  Dance majors develop multiple skills that transfer to all fields, including self-discipline, creativity, collaboration, understanding of group dynamics, and creative problem-solving.

The BA in Dance: Technique and Performance concentration is designed to educate students in a physical and intellectual understanding of the language of movement art through the study of contemporary and ballet technique.

The BA in Dance: Dance Studies concentration is a broadly based degree with a flexible curriculum designed to educate students about the field of dance through a liberal arts focus.

Concentrations

Select one of the following concentration areas:

Technique and Performance (50-57 credits)

The concentration in Technique and Performance will focus on pedagogical and historic aspects of dance art as well as on the practice of technique and performance.

Dance Studies (39 credits)

For individuals interested in multiple fields, this concentration covers the study of dance rather than the practice of dance. For those wanting to create a fluid and flexible curriculum based on specific interests. A great choice for transfer students or those with shortened time to degree.
