Introduction
The Jazz Studies Minor consists of a basic core of study in jazz theory and improvisation, jazz arranging and composition, and jazz history, along with ensemble performance and private improvisation instruction. The jazz studies minor allows for intensifying studies in jazz while completing a music major.
Why Consider a Jazz Studies Minor?
This program is designed for music majors who have an interest in a higher level of jazz education performance. The jazz studies minor is open to all BM and BA in Music students.
How to Declare (Admission and Declaration Process):
Freshmen and transfer students will be declared as a Jazz Studies Minor after meeting with the appropriate instrumental or vocal area coordinator and advisor and completing an audition.
Please visit our website for priority audition dates. Students who audition after these priority dates will be considered on a space available basis. cfpa.wwu.edu/music/auditions
Application deadlines: The audition must be completed prior to the quarter in which the student intends to enroll. Due to the sequential nature of the music curriculum, mid-year applications are not recommended. Students electing to begin in a quarter other than fall should seek advisement prior to enrollment.
Grade Requirements
A grade of C- or better is required for a student’s major or minor courses, and supporting courses for majors and minors.
