ESTU 376 - The History of Conservation in America A review of the story of conservation in America from the colonial period to the present. Emphasis is on the development of ideas about land and natural resources in America-how they should be allocated, valued and used. What currents of thought and action led to the concept “conservation” in the late 19th century? How did this concept develop and appear in government policy, and how did policy and bureaucracy involving this concept evolve? These questions are explored through the writings of the principals involved.
