RECR 399 - Nature Connectedness: Exploring the Positive Impact of Nature on Well-Being


In this immersive course, students explore the profound and scientifically backed benefits of connecting with nature for individual and collective physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. This course examines the human — nature connection from a variety of cultural and societal perspectives/philosophies. Students explore how humans have traditionally and historically connected with nature and how our relationships and traditions across time and culture have changed. We investigate how connecting with nature enhances our well-being individually and how it contributes to the collective well-being of society. Through a combination of experiential activities, guided reflections, and research-based insights, students discover how spending time in natural environments can boost cognitive function, enhance mood, reduce stress, and increase overall happiness. Drawing on the latest studies in human and nature connection, this course guides students in developing a deeper relationship with the natural world and harnessing its therapeutic effects.
