SPAN 311 - Spanish as a Heritage Language I Designed for heritage language learners — students who grew up with Spanish in their home and want to continue developing their communication skills in Spanish. This includes, but is not limited to, vocabulary building, building grammatical competency in both spoken and written Spanish, and developing writing strategies and styles. Through critical, historical, and aesthetic approaches, students will gain insight into the ways people from diverse cultural backgrounds express personal experiences, societal norms, and shared histories. Activities such as storytelling, film analysis, and other forms of artistic expression will provide students with opportunities to engage with the language in meaningful, context-rich ways, providing a framework for understanding it within its cultural context.
