SOC 441 - Social Movements and Change Capstone courses are synthesis course where students draw on the culmination of education and experience during their tenure at Western Washington University to complete an original research project. Within sociology, capstone courses are tailored to specific research focuses. This research seminar applies a sociological perspective to explore the dynamics of social movements (e.g., movement mobilization, persistence, repression by police and counter-movements, movement decline, and movement impacts on social change). Students will apply the analytic, methodological, and statistical skills acquired in Classical Sociological Theory (SOC 302), Statistics for Sociology (SOC 304), and Sociological Research Methods (SOC 306) to an independent qualitative or quantitative research project.
