MACS 330 - Marine Pollution This course will be a survey course on pollution in the marine environment. We will discuss contaminant sources, transport and degradation of contaminants. Topics will include various types of pollution (e.g. organic/inorganic, persistent/non-persistent, microbial, metallic, plastics, oil), relevant components of marine ecotoxicology (e.g. physical distribution, bioaccumulation and biotransformation, toxicological mechanisms and effects) and monitoring, mitigation and control strategies. Students will complete a literature-based research project focusing on a contaminant of interest and findings will be shared with classmates through a presentation.
