MACS 452 - Deep-sea Ecology

The ocean is big and deep. It covers more than 70% of the earth’s surface and could hold more than 22 times the amount of dry land on earth. On average, the ocean is about 3,800 m deep, making the deep sea the most typical habitat on earth. Nevertheless, deep-ocean ecosystems are the least explored on earth. This class will focus on the processes and patterns in the deep-sea ecosystem. During the course you will learn how scientists study the deep ocean, what they have discovered, and how deep-sea ecology research is evolving. You will also learn important writing and data presentation skills.
