SPED 446 - Mentoring Students with Complex Needs


This course focuses on mentoring students with complex needs in a Transition Program age range. This course builds upon concepts presented in SPED 474 Students With Complex Needs. Topics include vocational education, daily living skills, community-based education, developing leisure and recreation skills, communication skills, motor and medical needs, and assistive technology appropriate for persons with complex needs. The course emphasizes the transition of students with significant needs into post-secondary environments. This course requires a field experience where students will be a peer mentor to students in local school district transition program. This is a flipped classroom. Class time is dedicated to peer mentor activities and readings and assignments are completed independently outside class time. Repeatable to a maximum of 4 credits, including original course.
