A/HI 272 - Contemporary Art in Asia

This course will examine contemporary visual practices in Asia, considering both continuing historical as well as entirely novel art genres and media. It will introduce artists who are responding to their contemporary environment in a variety of innovative ways. Through image analysis and discussion of reading material, artistic forms will be explored and discussed with consideration of the social, political, religious and economic contexts within which they were made and within a broader global context.
