MACS 210 - Introduction to Marine and Coastal Science Research

This course is intended to help you understand the complex processes and interactions that occur in marine and coastal systems from estuaries to the open ocean. We will explore and connect diverse topics in biological, chemical, geological and physical oceanography ranging from tectonics to ocean acidification to estuarine circulation to habitat diversity. Much of this exploration will take place through hands-on learning and applied experiences that take advantage of the rich environments of the Salish Sea, including a one-week residential stay at Shannon Point Marine Center during spring break. In addition to fundamental science, this course will also discuss the foundational concepts in research design and scientific communication.
