A/HI 434 - Rococo: freedom, pleasure, decadence This seminar presents a study of Rococo art and culture, giving gravity to the period’s aesthetic levity and taking seriously its playfulness. Topics explored will include Rococo painting, the sociopolitical status of women, the new male archetype and its critics, libertine and erotic literature, philosophies of freedom, identity as performance, and utopian visions on the brink of the French Revolution.
Prerequisites & Notes: Any A/HI or equivalent 300-level course. Credits: 5 Grade Mode: Letter
