SOC 345 - Contemporary American Families This course provides students with broad knowledge about the conditions of contemporary family life in the United States and the sociological forces shaping families. The course emphasizes exposure to original research in family sociology. We will consider the diversity of families, placing a strong emphasis on differences across lines of social class, gender, immigrant status, race and ethnicity, and sexuality. The course incorporates a historical perspective and pays attention to the way that intersectional identities and structural inequalities together define family experiences. The course will draw on research using a wide range of sociological methods, and the specific focus may change across terms and instructors.
Prerequisites & Notes: Any course from: SOC 221, SOC 234, SOC 251, SOC 255, SOC 260, SOC 268, SOC 269, SOC 271 or instructor permission. Credits: 5 Grade Mode: Letter
