PLSC 422 - Race and Political Identification

This course examines identification as a primary site of political contest and asks how political actors summon people into ways of understanding who they are, what are their “interests,” and what politics they are beholden to. The primary context of our study will be U.S. race politics (with careful attention to gender, class, coloniality, sexuality, and [dis]ability), and we will examine questions about political appeals, interpellation, and political demonology to investigate the political production of forms of identification.

Prerequisites & Notes: PLSC 250 or PLSC 261; or instructor permission.
Credits: 5
