ANTH 310 - Monuments, Cities, and Taxes This class will provide students with an introduction to the theories, concepts, and methods archaeologists use to understand complex human societies. Topics examined in the course will cover the factors influencing the initial development of ‘state’ societies, variability in preindustrial complex societies, and a survey of commonalities and diversity in the political, social, and economic organization of ancient states.
