ENRG 486 - Electric Utility Resource Planning


This course covers resource planning methods most commonly used in the power sector today. It covers fundamental methods used and their applications to electricity generation, transmission and distribution planning, integrated resource planning, energy efficiency, and utility finance and ratemaking. The methods covered will include forecasting, resource assessment (including energy efficiency and demand-side management), optimization, and the processes used in decision-making. Each topic will include a formal presentation of the planning method used, how it is used, and case studies demonstrating the application.

Prerequisites & Notes: DSCI 305 or ECON 375 or MATH 341 or MATH 345; ENRG 386 or ECON 386 or ENRG 484 or ECON 484; ENRG 320 or ENRG 380 or ESCI 380 or ENRG 475.
