SOC 383 - Sociology of Risk

Applies a sociological perspective to study the assessment, management, and communication of risk. Explores similarities and differences in understanding risk among scientists, the private and public sectors, media, policy makers, and other actors. Risks found in both the US and international contexts will be discussed and may include risks related to terrorism, crime, environmental and health hazards, technological and natural disasters, and markets.

Prerequisites & Notes: Any one course from: SOC 221, SOC 234, SOC 251, SOC 255, SOC 260, SOC 268 or SOC 269; or instructor permission.
