CSD 210 - Communication and the Mind This course provides a basic overview of our knowledge of language and what it can tell us about the nature of the mind, and vice versa. It explores theories of cognitive and language development and traces development from infancy to adolescence. It covers the structure of sentences (syntax), words (morphology), and sound shape (phonetics, phonology), and how these are typically acquired, mentally represented, and processed by humans. In addition, students learn about the relationships between social cognition (theory of mind), language, and social competence, discuss communication disorders and differences, and the social cognitive affects of communication disorders on children and adults.
