The WWU Associated Students Child Development Center (CDC) participates in the state’s Early Achievers Quality Rating and Improvement program. We offer high-quality care and education for children of student parents and working professionals at WWU. Tuition for student families is determined by income and subsidized by the Associated Students. The CDC cares for children aged 1 to 5. The director and staff create a safe and healthy environment that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Conference Services

Our team of event coordinators is here to assist with your event planning needs, whether in person or virtual. We support a variety of events, including conferences, academic and scientific meetings, symposiums, training sessions, and workshops.

We can support you with:

  • Coordination of both on-campus and off-campus in-person events
  • Manage the entire process of virtual or digital events from start to finish.
  • Converting in-person events to virtual or digital formats
  • Contingency planning for seamless transitions from in-person to digital or virtual events

Facilities Development & Operations oversees all aspects of the university’s built environment, including planning, space management, capital budget, physical development, operations, preservation, and maintenance. In addition, FDO manages outdoor maintenance and groundskeeping, along with transport, moving, surplus, and recycling services.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is committed to collaboratively planning and maintaining Western’s technology infrastructure. Our key responsibilities include providing technical assistance to academic and administrative customers, administering wired and wireless networks and data centers, programming application and database integration, and ensuring data security. ITS strives to meet the university’s technology needs dependably, responsibly, and securely.

Risk, Ethics, Safety, and Resilience (RESR) leads functions that ensure a safe, resilient, and supportive campus environment. This includes environmental and occupational health and safety, fire safety, emergency preparedness, business continuity, compliance, and ethics. The team provides comprehensive services that support leadership in managing risks, enhancing safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing university policies.

The Strategy, Management & Budget office serves as the university’s hub for budget planning, management, analysis, and financial stewardship. Reporting to the Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs, this office plays a vital role in collaborating with various units across campus to deliver comprehensive budget and financial planning services. Their work ensures effective resource allocation and supports informed decision-making, contributing significantly to the university’s overall financial health and strategic objectives.

Dining Services provides a campus-wide experience that supports active, healthy lifestyles, sustainability, social responsibility and community development. Three dining commons and over a dozen cafés and markets serve the campus community with a variety of menu options that include vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and local fare. People with moderate to severe food allergies are encouraged to navigate campus by meeting with the campus dietician, staying informed of the options available and requesting alternatives when necessary. Meal plans and Viking Dollars are available to all members of the campus community. Western offers full-service customizable catering for events of all sizes, both on and off campus. Dining Services is committed to sustainable practices in all aspects of its operations, including locally sourced food, compostable packaging, food composting, zero-waste catering and Fair Trade coffee. University Dining Services employs over 500 part-time student staff in its food service and catering operations.

University Police and Transportation Services is dedicated to serving the university community and ensuring the security of our university. This area of Business and Financial Affairs includes the University Police Department, Transportation Services, Parking, and the Western Card/University Box Office. 

University Residences

The residential experience is intentionally designed to create affordable, safe and well-maintained University housing that supports participation in healthy, inclusive and sustainable communities, where students invest in their academic success and personal growth. Living on campus is optional, yet about 90 percent of freshmen choose On-Campus Housing. First-year students who meet the housing deadlines are guaranteed housing; returning residents are accommodated on a space available basis. Extensive research demonstrates students living on campus earn higher grades and graduate in higher numbers than students living off campus. Residents must be enrolled in a minimum of eight credits per quarter to live on campus.
