  • THTR 330 - Beginning Theatre Pedagogy


    A teaching assistant discussion/observation course designed to provide theatre students with experience and guidance in assisting an instructor in a particular theatre course. Repeatable up to 4 credits.

  • THTR 364 - Movement Studio II: Suzuki/Viewpoints


    An introductory exploration of the Suzuki and Viewpoints actors training movement systems intended to build an actor’s awareness of their body, especially the center. The method uses exercises that are inspired by Greek theater as well as martial arts and requires great amounts of energy and concentration allowing greater awareness of natural expressiveness in order to commit more fully to the physical and emotional requirements of acting.

    The in-depth exploration of an individual playwright or group of playwrights, or performance genre such as devising, opera, theatre and community, or theatre for social change.     This course is meant to introduce students to feminist thought. Through engagement with primary theoretical texts, students will become familiar with the core theorists and central arguments of feminist theory. At the end of the course, students will be knowledgeable on the various ways that the term feminism has and continues to be used in social, political, artistic, and economic contexts.

    This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of Sexuality Studies with a focus on the insights of the field of Queer Studies. Students will draw upon intellectual approaches to sexuality ranging from the arts and humanities to the social and natural sciences. Course addresses different permutations of the desires, identities, and practices that constitute sexuality in the US, the Arab Middle East, and Filipino/a diaspora.

  • WGSS 310 - Race, Ethnicity, and Indigeneity


    Examines how race, ethnicity, and indigeneity shape and inform local and global understandings of sex, gender, and sexuality. Students will address intersectional and de-colonial feminist and gender studies and question how settler colonialism and racism impact possibilities and strategies for gender justice.

    This course surveys how historians approach the topic of gender and how the discipline of Gender Studies has altered the way professionals study history. Rather than focusing on a particular region or era, this course examines how notions of femininity, masculinity, and the relationships between the two have changed and endured across different temporal and spatial contexts. Students will learn about the development of gender as a category of historical analysis, the growth of interdisciplinary approaches to gender in and out of academe, and current approaches to both gendering history and historicizing gender.   • WGSS 358 - Women of Color in the U.S.


    This course addresses the experiences and struggles of women of color in the United States both historically and today. In order to understand people in their own terms, we will read primary documents and secondary sources authored exclusively by women of color. Our overall goal is to better acquaint ourselves with the histories of women of color in order to better apprehend where they have been and where they are going, with a special emphasis on how they have been marginalized in the disciplines of History and Gender Studies.
